I’m Laura, founder of Dolomites Journey

I first visited the Dolomites in 2010 and completely fell for them.

I’ve been returning ever since, sometimes exploring somewhere new and sometimes going straight back to places I already love. Over the years I’ve hiked hundreds of kilometres of trails, stayed in different valleys, driven the mountain passes, figured out the cable cars and made plenty of my own planning mistakes along the way.

I’m originally from New York and now live in Ireland with my Irish husband. The Dolomites have become the place we return to year after year, and I’m usually thinking about the next trip before the current one is over.

These days, I use everything I’ve learned to help other travelers plan trips of their own.

How Dolomites Journey started

Dolomites Journey wasn’t something I originally set out to turn into a business.

After so many years of traveling there, friends and other travelers started asking me questions. Where should we stay? Is Cortina or Ortisei better? How many bases do we really need? Which hikes are worth doing? Can we manage without a car?

I loved helping with the answers.

And I realized that the hardest part of planning a Dolomites trip isn’t finding beautiful places. There are beautiful places everywhere. The hard part is putting them together into a trip that actually works.

Eventually, all those years of planning my own trips and helping other people with theirs became Dolomites Journey.

Why people ask for my help

I know what it’s like to sit at home with twenty tabs open trying to work out which valley to choose, how long a drive really takes or whether that gorgeous hike you found online makes any sense from where you’re staying.

I also know that more isn’t necessarily better.

Some of our best trips have come from slowing down, staying longer in one place and leaving enough room to change plans because of the weather, tired legs or simply because we found somewhere we didn’t want to leave.

That’s how I plan for my clients too.

I’ll tell you when I think you’re trying to fit too much in. I’ll recommend the village I think suits you rather than the one everyone on Instagram seems to be staying in. And I’ll think about the small practical details that can make the difference between a trip that looks great on paper and one that actually feels great while you’re there.

Because after sixteen years, I still love the Dolomites.

And I want you to come home loving them too.
