My Favourite Spa Hotels for a Winter Escape

Indoor sauna with snow on balcony outside

Winter is when Dolomites spa hotels come into their own. After a cold morning walk or a cable car day when the clouds roll in early, there is nothing better than an afternoon in a good spa with the mountains outside and nothing pressing to do. These are the hotels I return to and recommend most often for a winter trip, chosen for their atmosphere, their setting, and how well they actually deliver in the colder months.

Hotel Quelle, Val Casies

This is the one I recommend when someone wants the full winter wellness experience and does not want to compromise on any part of it. Val Casies is a quiet valley in the eastern Dolomites, away from the main tourist routes, and Hotel Quelle sits in it like it was built specifically for winter. Outdoor pools surrounded by snow, multiple sauna worlds, relaxation areas that feel genuinely designed for long slow afternoons rather than a quick dip. If your idea of a perfect winter day is barely leaving the spa, this is the place. It is also an excellent base for Val Fiscalina walks and the Three Peaks area.

Hotel Therme Meran, Merano

Merano is technically just outside the Dolomites but it is worth mentioning because it offers something different. A stylish spa hotel with direct access to the famous Merano thermal baths, which are some of the best in the region. On days when the weather in the mountains is poor and high-altitude plans fall apart, Merano is a genuinely excellent alternative. The town itself is beautiful, the food is excellent, and the thermal pools are reliably warm and well-run regardless of what the weather is doing outside.

Hotel Marmolada, Corvara

This is a smaller, warmer, more intimate option than the big wellness resorts and it suits people who want a personal atmosphere alongside the spa facilities. The hotel is family-run, the food is excellent, and it sits right in the centre of Corvara which makes it one of the easiest winter bases for non-skiers. The spa area is not enormous but it is well done, and the combination of a gentle morning walk in Alta Badia followed by an afternoon here and dinner in the restaurant is one of my favourite winter days in the Dolomites.

Adler Spa Resort Dolomiti, Ortisei

The Adler is the biggest and best-known wellness hotel in Val Gardena and it delivers consistently. Large, beautifully designed spa spaces with multiple pools, saunas, and treatment options. The location in Ortisei is ideal, you can take the cable car to Seceda or Alpe di Siusi in the morning and be back in the spa by early afternoon. If you want a high-quality, no-stress winter stay where everything is in one place, this is a strong choice. It books up quickly in January and February so plan ahead.

A note on spa hotels generally

The Dolomites have a genuinely strong spa hotel culture and most good hotels in the region will have some wellness facilities. These four are the ones I know well and return to, but they are not the only options. If you are choosing a hotel primarily for the spa, always check what is actually included in the room rate versus what costs extra, and whether the outdoor pool is heated and open in winter specifically.
